Advantage of higher voltage power supply

In my quest for upgrades I’m ordering new steppers and a new power supply.

What would the advantages be from say a 24 v supply and a 30v and up?

Are you using a gshield ? I think a gshield is rated to a max of 30V, gShield v5 - Synthetos . Steppers generally run better the higher the voltage.

Fit now I’m using the gshield but have plans for either a gecko or tb6600 in the future.

Since the operation of stepper motors is mainly dependent on current you won’t get much improvement in average torque out of using a higher voltage. What you do get is a faster rise time to the current limit than you get with a lower voltage supply. This results in more “snappy” steps.

You have to be aware of the limits of your electronics and stepper motors to avoid exceeding their maximum capabilities.
