Has anyone tried to use concrete/cement to stiffen the X carriage. I would think it would prevent it from bending at all. By using sand concrete/cement it would fill in most areas and really stiffen it. What are your thoughts on this idea.?
More than that, you would add weight without improving the stiffness much, if at all. Most of the load transfer of a solid beam occurs in the outer layer, whereas most of the weight is in the core. Thats why I-beams are used for buildings. You retain most of the load carrying capacity of a solid beam, while removing the dead weight of the portions that are not carrying load.
