Correct but the reason i modded their c beam was because my lift was so high my normal engraving bits couldn’t even reach the .75" wood material. So I modded it so it can drop the z with out losing clearance. 3/4" loss in clearance was made up by the lift.
Additionally I never even get close to the need for that much clearance.

Another way to reach the material with a short bit is to build up the waste board. This removes any fussing with the squaring of the z.
I am looking at lifting things, but I have a while yet before I can scrape the money together to do it, along with having the time to put the machine out of commission while I mod it.
That’s what I do. I use sheets of 3/4 mdf sometimes double height.
