Best Finish and Sealant for a Wood Pendant?

I am working on a wood pendant that will be on the skin a lot and I am trying to find a good water resistant, preferably waterproof, finish and seal for it that is also non-toxic and will not irritate someone’s skin. It also has to be durable enough to stand up to normal wear and people touching it frequently. Does anyone have any ideas?

You can go natural, w/ natural oil and wax and allow it to develop a patina, or shellac or lacquer instead of the wax (these are “hot” finishes and can be renewed / repaired at need), or you can use superglue, or some similar encapsulating, non-reactive plastic-like substance.

A lot will depend on the wood, and the frequency of contact.
