Building my Shapeoko 2, z axis lead nut really tight

So, I’m at the point of construction where I have to screw the lead nut onto the threaded rod. Should it be really tight? I mean almost impossible to turn?

I’m concerned because if I can’t turn the thing by hand I don’t think the stepper could turn it either?

Any thought?

Take a power drill and put the rod in the chuck and the Delrin but in a vice. Run it back and forth a few times until it’s a little smoother.

I used a little bit of 3-in-1 oil and manually screwed it on and off a few times. Then I used some hemostats to remove the pieces of thread that were binding up inside. It seems to be running pretty smoothly now.

Thanks for the idea though.

Cool that approach works too.
