When I go to test the z motor I can click on the up button two times then it starts to go down just two clicks.
Sounds like you have your motor wires reversed.
If a stepper will only move in one direction, regardless the commanded direction, one of the stepper wires do not have contact. With 3 wires OK the motor will move normally, except it has lost directional control. So it will usually just move in the direction of least resistance.
Check your wires fully, best is to check with a multimeter (measure resistance or use continuity mode) because bad joints can be consealed inside connectors etc.
Thank you for the help. I rechecked the wiring and it was hock up wrong. It is working just fine now again thanks for the help.
