After a carve I did in PVC I noticed that some of the waste seemed to be melted. The carve came out okay but I’m wondering if the feed rate is off and should I speed it up or slow it down. Thoughts?
More then likely you were going to slow i would speed the feed rate up.
You should be able to cut expanded PVC almost as fast as the top speed of your machine.
I’m told top speed of the XCP is 300 IPM
Actually, I think I was wrong…I believe it’s 200, not 300.
You can consider reducing the feed rate to decrease the generation of friction heat and reduce the likelihood of waste melting. Try gradually adjusting the feed rate to find a suitable speed for better carving results. Additionally, you can also experiment with adjusting the tool speed and cutting depth to further optimize the carving process.
