Contest Entry: LED Christmas Tree Decoration
Basically, a three-part black box (carved front, hollow middle, plywood back), Colored, remote controlled LED lights installed inside, painted black to look awesome in a dark room (think Christmas party). Size is about 8" x 10".
Originally, I tried to make this a two part box. I used the 3/4" MDF, and tried to just mill out a giant pocket, down 1/2", to hollow it out and make space for the LED light strip. This was when the belt broke on my machine (not necessarily because of the milling), and I realized it was going to take forever to turn all that MDF into dust. So, I switched to just cutting out the middle, going all the way through, and then gluing on a thin plywood back. Same effect, must faster!
See a youtube video here of the final result. Again, pictures of this thing are a bear! In real life, the colors look awesome.
