Creating a Bowl

Hi there, I am trying to create a bowl that has a smooth both on the inside and out. I would love any resources, directions , tips and advice. Also, if I wanted to use the bowl to hold a candle, how would I ensure that the wax wouldn’t leak, and also not burn when the candle burns down. Just trying to bring my ideas to life but not quite sure how to get there.

Thanks!

Do you have 3D software abilities?

I don’t, but I can do most things in illustrator but find the 3d software intimidating.

You are going to need 3D software to do a project like that.

I may be mistaken, but a lathe would give you the best results.

They do make Bowl Bits which basically cut a half circle along a path.

If you just hollowed out a cylinder with such a bit it would leave a rounded edge at the bottom inside the bowl. You might need to do two bit carving.

For the outside, you can cut out the bowl but you might need to use a round-over bit and a router table to finish up the outer edge.

A lathe can do a nice round bowl, but you can do bowls that have odd shapes like this

Some people put a little water in the bottom of a candle jar. When the candle burns down it gets put out.

Nice job, just might be my very first cut

Thank you
