DXF upload fail

G’day Guys

i HAVE dxf fILE 115KB to upload and it is on the desktop, Easel doesn’t find it to upload.
I tried with a Jpeg and it works .
I need the DXf for a project.
Any suggestions.
Thanks Dave.

Open it up in your cad software and try saving it as autocad version 12 if you can.

G’day Martin I’m using Onshape so far no luck. They have different versions.
Not sure which one to use.
If anybody else is using Onshape is there a work around ?
Dave

Try DXF release 2000. Ungroup your drawing too, as that might help.

G’day Martin

Still no luck with DXF 2000 I have tried all of them. Surly this can’t be this hard.
I have test drawing 250mm x200mm with a couple of holes. before I start the project. I 've You tube videos where they just upload the dxf to the work area.

It is kind of weird, but are you seeing your file, clicking on it, seeing it open, clicking on the green button, and finally the object is on the screen in Easel?

Part Studio 1 - Sketch.dxf (48.5 KB)
G’day Martin , I don’t see the file when I try and upload it.

Did you contact Inventables? That might be the way to go.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for uploading your file so that we can see what is going on. I am able to see your file on the import preview screen. It looks like a square box with two drill holes:

When I import it into a new document, I lose where it goes. It is so far off the workspace that I can’t even see it, but it IS there. If I click the Simulate button, the red lines show me that it wants to travel well outside of the space to cut, and of course that isn’t going to work.

I also notice that the size of the workpiece as imported is 250 inches by 200 inches, which is roughly 21 feet by 16 feet. This is far too big to cut on any machine that I am aware of. How big do you want this piece to be?

Anyway, what I did to get to be able to see it is this: Ctrl-A to Select All (or Edit, Select All from the toolbar), and then Edit, Center to Material. My project is currently set to 12"x8" and 0.5" thick. While everything is still selected, I could go to the Shape tab, and use the Lock button beside width and height to keep the aspect locked, and resized from 250 down to 10, and the height will change automatically by keeping the aspect ratio. Then I used Edit, Center to Material again. You will need to specify your material size there for what you want, but as you can see, I can now see the project.

I have shared this Easel project with the DXF file imported and resized, and you should be able to open it and adjust it for the size that you need.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!
