[Easel Feature Request] Drill Operation

Newbie here - Following this! Primary reason we bought the X-Carve this month is to do our control panels. Our panels are 1/4" ABS plastic with LOTS of drilled and tapped holes. While we suspected we could not do the hole tapping initially we thought we could do hole drilling as easily as everyone does carving. We’re learning through the forum this may not be case.

We can’t do the typical method of creating holes (tool path with a smaller bit than the hole) because we need to do holes with the proper bit sized for tapping. For now we can do the tapping manually with a hand drill. Our holes patterns can be exported from our CAD software in DXF format for import into a program. An example of a panel is shown here. The larger diameter hole and the rectangular opening can be routed. For the drilled holes we don’t need pecking - proper bit speed (and sharp bit) each hole can be done in a single pass.

What program becomes the best for doing this now?

Thanks!

Since you have design software to create your patterns, Mach 3 is a great driver program for such things. It also includes numerous wizards for generation hole patterns and such.

However,It probably won’t work on the stock x-carve because of the different control setup.

Our smallest hole is .105" diameter, and we range up through.257" diameter. These are for tapping. We have general through holes that are .25" and .328"

Easel now supports drill operations! For more info, see the announcement that was posted today
