Lead Screw Video Follow Along

Hey, I’ve had the notion for a while to upgrade the belt drive to lead screw drive.

I think I have found a way to do this that is simple, and I figured I’d make a video series out of it for others to see. Still Images are good, but Video shot properly can be much better.

While I can cut the brackets with the xcarve, I think I have found a way thats not overly complex that doesn’t require a drill press. Maybe Ill use one, but we shall see.

I have my first video up, which does not feature my idea, but the conjecture/theory for it anyway.

I think once I do it, people will like what I’ve came up with.

I started to convert one of my machines to lead screw. Basically I took a short piece of 2020 extrusion and used open builds lead screws and antibacklash nuts. It required to drill one hole in the motor plate for mounting the extrusion from the inside to the outside of the plate. From there the nut mounted with insertion nuts to the extrusion on the side. There are lots of accessories available to put the motors at one end. I ended up dismantling it all and rebuilding using openbuilds parts.

Hey I should have answered back right away.

I think I will be ordering a few component’s from them.

I’d love to see a few pictures of what you did.

Part 2

Explaining what I plan to do in slightly more detail.

I do have experience drill holes dead on accurate. I actually happen to have footage of me here explaining this on a project that dovetails nicely with what we are doing here. Go to 34 minute mark.

Part 3

So I have the plates cut slightly out of square and a little to small. Not a huge deal. Hey some people might benefit greatly from seeing how to deal with this. I will show how to correct for it the next video.

I cut these with an aluminum cutting blade from harbor freight. I think I spent 20 minutes or so cutting these out. Not long at all.

I dismantled it and am just finishing up an open builds CMC 500 x 1000
