Need help on a new project

I was wanting to make a sign, but I want to laminate a piece of metal on top of a board before I carve the sign. That way the top surface would look metal and the wood would be visible in the carving. Has anyone done this type of carve yet? If so, could you tell me what metal to use and what bit to use. I was thinking of using aluminum flashing as the thin metal venire. What’s your thoughts on that and any ideas where I could get a 30” square of flashing?

Search for “Dibond” and “ACM”

With such a thin alu top sheet you can pretty much consider is as a plastic in terms of feed rates/bit selection.
Go fast and use single flute

Home Depot sells 24" X 50’ flashing but they also sell smaller pieces you could use for practice. You could also try Omega Bond, its a plastic core panel with a thin sheet of aluminum on top, Home Depot does not sell that, you would have to go to a sign supply place.

Cool idea. Would love to see a picture after you execute it.

I think it is a cool idea but wondering how you would attach it to the wood.

@WayneHall Contact cement should work. It’s a little tricky to work with if you never used it before
