Need help with tapering

I’m at wits end trying to figure out if I can apply a taper to a project I’m working on. I would like to apply a taper to the triangle shaped object shown in the photo. The bottom of the triangle would remain 1 1/2 inches thick and it would taper down to 1/2 inch at the top of the triangle. Is this even possible? I’m using VCarve Pro.

So, you’re making a trapezoid?

In V-Carve pro, you might have to use a fluting toolpath to get a shape that gets thinner on one end.

Try using the tilt function as below

What about making a grayscale gradient across your shape in a graphics program and exporting an SVG?

This is how I would do it using the fluting toolpath, this CRV from pro version 8.5, open up and simulate, you will get the idea. You would have to adjust the spacing of the vectors to suit your needs/bit size but this should get you started. Any questions, ask away.

Tapered triangle test.crv (102 KB)

  1. Create triangle vector.
  2. Model into a flat shape.
  3. Click set and draw the dotted red line from the point of the triangle to the base. The direction of this determines the direction of the slope bottom to top.
  4. set the angle appropriate to your model
