Both…I’m making this up as we go along here. I like @AllenMassey’s idea of saving on the shipping costs by publishing the files. I also like the idea that the kids make the toys and give them to sick kids in a local Children’s Hospital. I also like the idea of driving holiday sales to Inventables customers.
The idea is still forming but here’s a version. We put together a “Holiday Book” and each page features somebody different along with their company and 1 product that they sell. We’ll include a picture of the product, the price, and how to buy it.
Criteria to be included are you need a nice picture, it needs to be appropriate to give as a gift, and you need to have an Inventables project page filled out with the files.
We publish the book and get a lot of press around it. We can have digital copies but you’ll also be able to order a coffee table style version since it will be beautiful.
The book is used to bring press exposure to all the companies that make and sell the products in the hopes of driving more sales. Think of it as free marketing.
The second piece is we build out the holiday gift section of the Inventables project catalog. I connect with the ~1200 schools and libraries that have machines and see who wants to participate in the program to have their kids make products and deliver them to other kids in a local Children’s hospital.
Here’s a mock up of what the cover could look like.
