is there a way to erase part of a design that falls outside the cutting field? example i have repeating text on a 45* angle covering the whole work piece; some of the text falls of the work piece area. can you erase just that with like an eraser tool?

Use a rectangle with cut depth set to zero, and place it over areas not intended to be cut.
