Try a different USB cable.
Keep the AC power line (router, shop vac, etc) away from your USB cable.
Are you sure the bit you are using is able to fit in all the locations that did not get carved?
…and if you are using the Xcontroller connect the USB directly to the controller board, bypassing the panel USB-socket.
