Raising spindle motor? More about the machine than Easel but I love my Easel

Good Afternoon - I am using a Genmitsu PROVer 3018 machine which limits the depth of my cut severely, but it is what I have. Any way I am wanting to start making small jewelry boxes and have a question. The normal straight cut 1/8 inch bits I have are too short to do the cut(1/2x3/4 blade area). Someone recommend another bit that is 1/8" x 3" with a cutting section of 1 1/2" - As a first cut test board I have a 1" thick piece of cedar. With the 1/4 thick spoil board I currently have on the machine, putting the 3" (total length) bit will just barely clear the work surface. Can I just undo the screw and raise the spindle motor about 3/8" to achieve the clearance I need? I will try and add a pic here to make this easier to understand

I took a look at my 3018 and I think you could move the spindle up 3/8" and still have the similar gripping action of the clamp. It might change the flexibility a little. The 3018 has limitations like any other machine. Perhaps consider another machine with a taller Z axis or a box redesign that works with the machine you have.

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking - yes I am considering another machine in the future. This was my first and a good learning experience. As soon as I can afford it I will be jumping but for the moment retirement hasn’t been really good to us - main reason I make things to sell LOL. Thanks again
