I think the Z motor is fine. Where I notice a difference is the two Y motors vs. the single X. Y cuts way smoother with twice the power.
I would think about dropping a higher torque stepper on the X if the X Controller driver/PSU could handle it.

I do not understand all this flex talk. I have not seen any evidence of this “flex”. I’ve had my xcarve for 2 years and it runs as good as the day I built it. This is a hobby machine and not a production machine. I would bet you probably push your machine too hard for what it is meant for. The xcarve cuts at 10x slower speed that a production model that cost 6 to 10 times as much.
