Surfacing bit settings

I am purchasing a 1inch surfacing bit. But i am wonder what setting do people use? The auto settings in easel state FeedRate 32, Plunge Rate 9 and Depth Per Pass .04. Do these seem correct? I am very new to this and not 100% sure how to calculate this yet.

Assuming you’re actually using it to surface your spoilboard (or workpiece), you should be taking a very light pass of 1mm or so. As far as your feedrate…I’d at least get that up to 75in/min. If you’re comfortable, the endmill will handle as fast as your machine can go. There will be very low cutting forces with such a shallow pass. Bump up your plunge rate as well.

For fast surfacing, also increase stepover from default 40% to something higher like 70-80% assuming its trammed properly
