I'm going to resurrect this topic a bit to show off an alternative that might help some 500mm machine owners if they want something like DallasPowers' LocLine solution.
I bought 2' of 0.75" locline expecting to do similar to DallasPowers and drop it behind the Z axis. I realized too late the same thing that JimBenedetto did, that the solution doesn't work well for 500mm machines. So this is my alternate setup:
It installs into the Nema 20 mount using M5 bolts, so unfortunately this design will only work for machines using Nema 17s. It actually mounts around the Nema 17 stepper. It uses 1.5" PVC because I wanted to make sure I didn't limit the suction of the shop vac (which has a similarly sized hose.) The design could easily be adapted to any size hose. It uses a standard 1.5" to 0.75" PVC reducer to interface the locline with the PVC, with mixed results. The right-side locline has 3 segments removed from the full 12" length to try to avoid interfering with the router's cable.
It may not be a perfect solution since it only works with Nema 17s, but it's simple and doesn't require any modifications to the machine. It also doesn't apply any extra force onto the Z carriage, since it's mounted onto the X carriage, which was one of my big requirements. I can post the Easel project if anyone wants it. Hopefully it will help out someone else.
