Vacuum table with marbles

Vacuum table with 64 marbles:

That is a nice idea, but I have concerns.

  1. How do you make (and keep) the top of the vacuum table perfectly flat and level with respect to the spindle?

I just skim a few hundredths off the top of wasteboard to make it flat and level, that does not seem practical with the vacuum top.

  1. Am I the only one that cuts through work into the wasteboard?

I see the top of the vacuum table being cut into all the time. When one of the cuts runs across a suction hole the marble will not be able to seal it.

I much prefer this one from Frank Howarth. It has a sacrificial top surface that can be skimmed as required.

That does seem like a better idea.
