I’m just about ready to make my first ever cut. Two bits came with my new X-Carve but I can’t find anything explaining what they are. What are these two bits that came with mine?
Awesome, what speed should my blue Makita router be set at with these? It came with the dial set on 6 which is the fastest setting. Just looking to do the included “Intro to Easel” project for now.
Those are for engraving. I have a couple v router bits but don’t have any use right now for those. If you are doing text, that’s what you want. If you are clearing out shapes, you may want to buy what’s called a straight bit. Easel will set up recommended speeds. I’d try the router speed that gives the best result for your work. In the old days, routers just ran on high, so that’s what I’d try.

I usually buy my whiteside bits on Amazon these days.
In Easel, I see pro presets for 60 and 90 degree bits, so I am assuming that’s what they included with the X-carve.
I just ran my test cuts on the high setting. Is there any downside by always running on the fastest speeds?
Router speed and feed rate and depth of cuts are things that are best tried and see what the results turn out like. Metals and plastics and woods are all different. I’m just now starting to cut aluminum 6061 and using way less depth of cut and feed rate than I would on a hardwood.
I think the Easel choices run on the conservative side.
