I position my project and use the measures on the screen and board, then it carves on the left hand side of board, does not center as shown. do I need to change some settings?

Are you using the lower left hand corner for your x and y zeroing?
Sounds like your axis movement calibration might be off…
What cnc model is this and can you provide the grbl settings?
They are the bottom of the machine inspector screen.
