if you have the budget, go ACME and Nema 23.
I ran through pink insulation foam from home depot at 200 ipm on this without a bit of problems. Speed 1 on the dewalt with a 1/16" bit. I bet I could easily have run it faster.
As an update, after finishing this project, I upgraded to nema 23s.
I bumped my voltage up on my potentiometers up to high values (2.4v on y axis, 1.7v on x/z) and attached these heatsinks to the gshield chips:

Now I can run z at 1000mm/m max speed for as long as I want, and the y/x axis almost can’t be stopped by hand.
