during testing in easel, when I clicked the down arrow to test the z axis it steps down, but randomly will steps back up. So I can press down three times, and the third step, it will move back up. ???
Check your Z-Axis wiring, probably a loose/short wire.
I had a similar problem when the g-shield was not seated well in the Arduino.
