Z axis will not cut deep enough

Hi everyone.

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am trying to make a house sign from ash using a 90 degree v bit (12mm). I have created the drawing and gcode using vcarve. The issue is that it traces the path of lettering in the x/y axis fine but in the z axis only skims the top of the surface of the wood. I tried the gcode using UGS and Easel and get the same thing. I have put the correct dimensions of the wood in vcarve set up e.g. 300x178x22mm. I don’t seem to have this problem when cutting pockets etc only when trying to use a V bit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mike

Did you export the gcode from Fusion360?

I believe you have to set Z 0 to bottom of your stock for the trace operation.

No using Vcarve. I think it is to do with the font. Just used a different font (Times Roman TUR) and it worked perfectly. But open to other suggestions.
