Everything was fine on the last carve. Came in the next day and the z won’t jog or move. Machine will not home. X and Y jog just fine. I can hear that the motor is not on. I connected one of the y cables to the z motor and could then hear the z motor humming. I need help
So you switched a cable from a working motor to the Z and it hums but doesn’t move? I’d say you might need a new motor. Are the wires connected properly?
You can check the motor pairs with an ohm meter to see if they have continuity. I have no other answers,
So to clarify. I stopped when I heard the “humming” because I knew that the motor was getting power. I have since plugged the z cable into the x port on the control box and I was able to get the z axis to move with no problem. So…I have gotten to the point where I “know” that the z motor and cable are fine. The issue seems to be that somewhere between the computer and control box the signal to activate/send power to the z axis is not getting through and I don’t know what to check next. I have called and emailed customer service Multiple times and have been sent to voicemail and emails have not been returned
Check all the wiring for the z axes and make sure all the connections are good.
I had a similar problem with my y axis. There were no obvious loose wires either. Swapped driver wires aroud and the error moved to swapped axis so error was something to do with the stepper driver so opened up the casing and found that the power supply wires had been shorting out intermittently causing the lack of movement so removed the bad connections and ended up soldering power leads directly to the board. Has worked perfectly ever since.
