Dose the Z probe measure to the top of the work piece or to the surface of the waste board based on the entered thickness of the material? I’ve searched the forum and could not find an answer.
Top of the work piece, you will enter in the thickness of the material.

I thought I had changed the thickness of the board to .5 but it remained .75 and after using the z probe it did not cut the surface so I wasn’t sure what it was measuring. Most likely PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair)

Thanks for your help Russell I tried again and it worked, not sure what I did the first time probably just trying to do too much at once.
