Open flame is definitely the way to go, but try not to scorch it. Just carmelize the sugars in the wood and it’ll seal nicely! :sunglasses:

I’ve used a torch and then rubbed it with steel wool to even it out. This paddle was done that way. I burned it first then carved it on the X-Carve.
