Hi Zach, dont know if you’d remember me…Segal design institute student shop at Northwestern?
I’ve inherited a carvey that I’m trying to get operational. I’ve downloaded easel and the FTDI files. I can see the carvey in machine inspector, but there are alarms. I have a green door button and the clamp button turns green when I depress it. X-Y-Z buttons are all white. Looking for some good info on how to diagnose and get it running.
Thanks for any referral or advice …Scott Simpson

What alarms are given in the console?

Mpos:0.000, 0.000, 0.000[Bf:15,128[Pn:DH]WCO:-299.498, -189.249, -65,429>
MPos:0.000, 0.000, 0.000[Bf:15,128[Pn:DH[Ov:100, 100, 100
MPos:0.000, 0.000, 0.000[Bf15,128[Pn:DH>

many more scrolling lines
/alarms but most have whats in these three

Thanks !!

Serial number on the carvey is 879-8326220

I get 8 lines of the same alarm…0.000, 0.000, 0.000[Bf:15,128[Pn:DH,

Then one Bf:15,128[Pn:DH[WCO:-299.498,-189.249,-65.429>

And one more line…Bf:5,128[Pn:DH[Ov:100,100,100>

Those aren’t alarms.
Is the door open when you’re seeing this?
What have you tried doing that doesn’t work?

Wow, THAT’s embarrassing !..thank you

Is there a way to run it in manual mode, ie; jog z-x-y and /or run spindle?

Has it homed successfully?
When you start a carve, the jog screen becomes available. I stopped using Easel a while ago, so I’m not really sure.
Are you familiar with gcode or CNC at all? You can use the console to send gcode.

Hi Neil,

Yes I was able to home it successfully. I know nothing about this carvey it was given to me. The manager of the department said it had some issue with homing and wasn’t sure if it was the smart clamp, a sensor etc. I don’t need this but I’d like to be sure it works correctly when I put it up for sale
Is there a way to easily check all functions?

Thanks for your expertise and time

The carvey only homed once and now it refuses to home, Z button is green

idle Mpos:0.000,0.000,0.000, -1.000[Bf:15,128[Pn:Z>

If anyone in the community is interested in buying this, make me a fair offer. I have no idea what its worth or if it is functioning properly. Physical condition is very good, when it homed it moved smoothly and quietly. I’m in the 60004 zip code, Chicagoland area …Scott

Power off.
Turn the nut at the top of the Z to lower it manually.
Will it home? Any errors when homing?
Can you get a video of the homing process?

Not sure there’s much market for the Carvey, but if you want one that’s running well to add to the one you don’t need, I have one for sale.

Neil,

Thanks so much for your time and expertise, I donated the Carvey to a maker friend of mine who has the time and interest to figure it out and get it running.

Great community here, very helpful !

Hi Neil, trying to help the friend I donated the carvey to since I already have this thread going with you.

He metered both X and Y micros, they’re good. Hr is ablr to jog the machine via the Easel console in all three axes, negative and positive.
When he’s in the machine inspector and hits home, the spindle/Z lowers about 4mm and the msg box appears failed to home.
He entered $$ and has a picture of the machine settings, is there a way to check each setting to be sure they are correct, OR is there a way to input code to reset them to factory setting

these are the settings, all starting with $

132=80.00
131=203.200
130=300.000
122=30.000

Can you get him to send a ? and report the response.

Also…are you sure you copied this correctly? Have your guy contact me.

Lastly…have him change $27 to 3

Hi Neil, if you explain too me how to do that I will ask him to get that info,

Thanks

I told him to send ? which he did in the console after $x, g91 and he moved all axes neg and pos…he said ok came back.

he said all homing switches are blank except Z which is green

No matter where he jogs the Z axis? He’ll have to troubleshoot that.

He said he can jog Z neg/pos in different incremental moves and Z is still green. He turned it off and on, deleted the machine in easel, re installed it and when tried the home function, Z moved down apx 4mm, then the failed to msg appered.
