Hi
Has Anyone ever make a clothespin?
I have a bunch of plastic clothespins, they have broken, and I thought I might try to make some out of wood.
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks in advance.
Martin
When I was teaching, we used to make what was called superclips. They were a desktop memo holder. I’d buy the large springs from a vendor and we would make the wooden parts. It certainly was easy enough, with 2 holes, and two tapered legs with ends rounded on a sander.
Scale it down for regular ones.

if your looking to do it on the CNC you could do your own take on some traditional clothes pins, they work great if you’re actually using them for clothes on a clothesline. But they are usually round, you would have to square them up a bit to make them CNC friendly.
Hello @MartinGutzmer!
Making wooden clothespins sounds like a great project! Many people have tried it, and it’s quite rewarding. Here’s a brief guide to get you started: mySedgwick
- Materials: You’ll need some wood (hardwood is best), springs (you can reuse the ones from your old clothespins), and basic woodworking tools.
- Cut the Wood: Cut the wood into small, equal-sized pieces for the clothespin halves.
- Shape the Pieces: Shape the pieces to ensure they fit together with a spring in between.
- Assemble: Place the spring between the two wooden pieces and test the grip.
You can find detailed tutorials and templates online for more guidance. Enjoy your woodworking adventure!
