I am attempting to make a box as a gift that has a similar shape to a pirate’s chest or a gambrel barn shape
any thoughts?

You could draw the lid in 3d and machine it curved with a ball nose bit. A gambrel roof would need some type of V bit with the proper angle or a jig to hold the wood at the angle to use with a straight bit.
