It worked until I needed to reduce the size of the finishing bit to 0.5mm for fret cuts.

You need to make it public to see it. FWIW, I use a dremel v bit in my x carve to scribe my slot locations and then cut them with a fret saw in a backsaw set up.

The problem with a fret saw is it cuts to the edge, exposing the fret. I don’t let the grey wire run all the way to the edge, leaving the side of the fretboard smooth wood.
