This way you can erase certain parts of an imported design instead of trying to ‘select’ ‘delete’ because a lot of designs weld multiple pieces of the design together so that you can’t just select one part.

Yeah a cursor based tool would also be a nice touch, but heres a solution that also works.
If you use the shape tools, like a circle for example, and place that on top of the part you want erased, then set the circle to 0 depth and then select the circle and the design element and use the edit>combine function the part the circle was covering will be erased.
It will default the resulting design to “on the path” so you’ll have to change the cut type as desired afterwards.
