Help with tear out on the points of a V-carved star

I am cutting out some TN tri-stars in poplar and I typically have 2+ points chip out just a little bit (see picture). I am using a 60 deg V bit and I have tried slowing down IPM . The bit is new and I have had the issue out of it the entire time. Also, I have the same issue out of a 90 degree bit too.

What is the most reliable way to ensure they don’t chip off.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Phil. I was wondering that about the depth. since i am doing .1" I think dropping it in half should be plenty for what I want to do.

Soak it in sanding sealer before carving. It tends to hold up better.
