is it possible to engrave or inlay text around the diameter of a walking cane with my x carve using easel?
you can kind-of alter the depth as the bit moves from the top of the cane towards the side, but without a rotary or 4th axis you can’t really go beyond about 30 degrees before the carve gets really distorted as it goes over the rounded edge…
Even then it would be quite a task to get it right using nothing but Easel… if you have some legit 3d modeling experience, it becomes a bit more of an achievable task using Fusion360 as shown here:
But you’ll notice this is a domed top and they aren’t going near the more rounded edges and barely dealing with much of a curve vs a round cane,
Now you could do something like this, and then fill the removed area with like some colored or even pure clear epoxy to bring back the strength of the removed material, but I doubt this is the look you had in mind, and it would be a lot of work for the epoxy fill part…
