I’d like to use the Amana 46286 - K Spektra Extreme Tool Life Coated SC 2D and 3D Carving 3.6 Deg Tapered Angle Ball Nose x 1/8 D x 1/16 R x 1 CH x 1/4 SHK x 3 Inch Long x 3 Flute Router Bit
but can’t seem to find an easy way to import it / add it to the tools I can select for the detail carve. What am I missing?
sounds like you need Easel Pro How to Add Bits and Materials to your Easel Toolbox – Inventables
I got Easel Pro, added the bit, can see it in my toolbox but can’t select it for the actual project.
Check to make sure your depth of cut, material thickness, and feed rates are appropriate for that bit. The reason I say that is that if things are off, Easel may not accept it. I’m just guessing here. I just use a regular straight bit.
Easel doesn’t really care what bit you choose. If a bit is in your list, you should be able to select it, whether it can do the job or not.
In this example, I have selected a 1/4" bit, which is much too big to do the details, and as you can see in the preview window, it is only going to carve a small part of the job.
You cannot select a bit from within the toolbox. It must be selected from the ‘Bit’ dropdown on the toolbar.
You can see that I have added your bit to my toolbox, and it appears in my bit list so that I can select it from there. If you cannot see your bit in that dropdown list, you may need to add it again. I did have a problem trying to set the angle, Easel does not accept decimals in the angle, so you have to specify a whole number. It won’t take 3.6 degrees, so you would have to choose either 3 or 4 as your angle.
@JordanLee1 I understand all that you have mentioned. However, mine doesn’t show up in the selection at all after II added a custom Tapered Ball Nose End Mill 1/8 Shank 8 Degree 2mm bit.
I don’t know why it isn’t working for you. Are you using Easel Pro? I have never had any issues with adding a new bit using the process I described above. Reach out to Inventables, and see if they can help you?
