I just carved a simple STL model that is essentially a 12"x7" plate with six 1/4" holes. FWIW, the face of the plate is sloped so that’s why I did 3D…
Anyway, the end result (and what I can now see in the preview) is that the holes do not go all the way through and the bottom and top edges (WRT the Y axis) were not cut all the way down. I was using a 1/4" ball bit for finishing and a regular 1/4" 2 flute upcut for roughing.
I actually would have expected the roughing pass to have done the outer edge and the holes as it has a flat bottom. As you can see in the pic, there is a “flair” on the sides because of the ball bit and for whatever reason, the hole should go all way through and the bottom/top edge should have been cut all the way down.
What did I do wrong? The model looks fine in Easel as I do the layout but the generate paths are lacking. Thoughts?
