It's Alive

Made a small box this morning, not sure what I will do with it  I still need to sand and finish.

Cut in 3/4" maple using a 0.25" endmill at 75 IPM with a 0.125" DOC.

If you can find same size book to fit in, that would be very elegant gift to some one.

That is a great idea, Thanks!

Congrats!!!

Bad picture, but here is a small shallow carving…each one is 4 inches across this is straight off of the machine. Carved from 1/4" cherry. I’ll try to get a better picture later…I was melting out in the shop all day today…too hot

I only needed 7, but since the wood was there, I went ahead and made 2 extras…an E and a T…coasters, one for me and one for my wife

Now…sand, seal, paint, sand, seal and hang

Nice! Did you cut keyhole slots in the back?

I know there was a post some time ago about keyhole cutting, I have several new items I’m cutting that need the keyhole and was wondering if there was a canned method yet…

No keyhole slots on these, I’ll figure out how to hang them later today

I have seen a few posts on making a keyhole slot, haven’t really tried it yet. I should make a quick g-code file so when I need it, it will be ready.

Looks like there is one in the forums:

This is how they will hang on the wall:

I recommended this…she said no

If it helps, here’s the G-code I plug in to Easel. It’s a version of that from the project forum page, just slightly modified. Position the bit 1 inch above where you want the entry hole on the material and go (after you do an air test, of course):

I sealed the wood with polyurethane, used a brush for the black and then sanded the excess.

Here they are before I sanded the excess black off.

Ha, that’s funny. When I first saw your post, I was trying to figure out what you were spelling and all I could see was omelet.

I strongly recommend editing my script to go less than one inch. A half inch would probably do. It drives me nuts watching it cut that unnecessarily long slot. But then again… I seem to always be in a hurry.
