Lost connection to computer during firmware update

I started my 1st carve last night and about 75% complete the machine just stops. So i wait for 30 mins or so before i try to do anything else. So i cancel out the carving session and i figured id just try again. So i go through the steps to start a new carve (i see the firmware update on the screen and well i clicked it) it starts the download /upload and about at about 40% complete my laptop dies… so no big deal i plug the laptop and continue where i left off… one small problem now the computer isnt recognizing the machine also i have this small window pop up when i plug the usb from the controller into the computer it says something along the lines of (the device thats connected through usb port has malfunctioned and cannot be used also that windows cant fix problem) i figure im probably the only person alive that lets his laptop die during a update so theres that and im really hoping somebody here can help figure this out.

I’ve had a similar but different situation the past few days (hadn’t even thought about the fact that I downloaded the new update just prior).

I had carved no problem all morning, and then it shut down. I thought that the laptop had died (because I discovered that the charger was not working).

but when I charged up the laptop and plugged it in, I got an error message that my machine was not set up to ‘home’ (???

So i did some searching on here, and it had been a problem for a user in the past, and one of the members instructed to search the code (I believe it was $22=1). long story short, I checked the code and it was fine.

So not knowing what else to do, I did what any other self-respecting clueless chap would do, I rebooted the machine and I rebooted the computer.

PROBLEM FIXED!

Yesterday I had a similar situation to that, I do not recall the error message, but having learned from the previous issue, I rebooted both the machine and the computer.

again, PROBLEM SOLVED.

the moral of the story is I have no idea what is happening, but I’d try rebooting your machine (turn it off, leave it off for 5 minutes, then turn it back on), and reboot your computer.

if that doesn’t work, I’m clueless.

I greatly appreciate the reply and yessir i went through all the motions you’ve described.

After all the searching and video watching it came down to the help of a very nice lady from inventables support.

Ms Giovanna was awesome she jumped right into it. The sad thing is that the usb to type C cable was faulty.

So from now on ill be checking cables and computer chargers lol.

Yes, I’ve conversed with Giovanna several times, and she is AWESOME. However, I think that she and her Tech Support dept are overwhelmed, either that, or they recognize my phone number, and don’t answer it any longer when I call :frowning:

I too had a bad cable issue. In my case it was the CAT5 ‘jumper’ cable inside the control box. Working with Tech Support they wanted me to just start throwing expensive parts at it (first $280 control box, it that didn’t fix it, an $1,800 tower, if that didn’t fix it, we’d start troubleshooting). Instead I had a friend come over who has experience with system and network building. Luckily, less than a half hour into testing, we found the problem to be pin #8 of that jumper wire. $8 bucks later on Amazon, and the problem was solved. So like you, I check cables, connections, etc FIRST and then go from there.

NOT Inventables fault as they buy those parts, but I did let them know that there are likely quality control issues in their supply chain (I’ve seen other posts where the problem was cable connectors), with luck, they are taking this seriously and demanding higher quality control from their suppliers.

Anyway, Glad that you found the problem and that you are back up and running. All boats rise with the tide, and this group has helped keep me on the rails (which is no easy task for all of the problems that I have been having - many of which originate between my ears)

All my best,

Joe
