Making a square through cut with radiused corners

Hello all,
wondering if someone can help with what I presume is a simple thing but beyond me.

I’m trying to make a basic square template to be used with my handheld router and a template bit. The project is simply a square with radiused corners.

i remember in the past being told that since it is not possible to ‘draw’ in Easel, what needs to be done is make the object using available tools, and then ‘black-out’ what is not to be used.

in this case, I made the square, and then imported four circles. Trouble is, that what I really need is the opposite of the circle (I need to ‘black-out’ what is beyond the circle, not the circle).

Again, I assume that there is a simple fix, I just don’t know what that is.

Below is the project. Please note that the circles are not set to ‘cut through’ yet, because I need to see them, so know that they will be set to the total depth once I can get it to what I need.

The bigger question is; is there a way to radius a corner without having to jump through these hoops??? If not, how do I make this work??

Click on the square…a window opens up…at the bottom enter the two measurements of your corner radii.

OMG!!!

THANK YOU - THANK YOU!!!

I assumed that it was a simple fix, but I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. That’s EXACTLY what I needed.

“look Mom, I learned something today!” haaaa, haaaa, haaaa

But seriously, Thank you Martin (and thank you Momma Kayleigh)

Okay, next question;

while this is a simple cut, I’m sure that I’m not going about this the best way, but I’m completely ignorant as to HOW to do this. In short, it’s a simple square cutout, with radiused corners.

Thanks to Martin’s reply, it has radiused corners, BUT…

i discovered the hard way that it takes a Looooong time to carve out the entire thing, so after making the square the way that I wanted it, I imported another square with zero cut. This allowed me to cut just the outside.

HOWEVER, there are no tabs. that as you know is a problem.

I’ve watched several videos on tabs, and ALL of them talk about adjusting tabs, but not how to force Easel to accept tabs.

the problem is - I assume - that when you choose a square from the shapes, the menu does NOT offer the four different cut options like other imports do (cut on the line, cut outside the line, cut inside the line, remove the center), instead it assumes that the user only wants to remove the center. As such, the need to add another square that is not cut, but this means NO TABS.

Again, I’m sure that there is a simple way to cut a square with radiused corners and NOT carve the entire center, but I can’t figure it out.

does anyone know how to either FORCE Easel to accept tabs where I want them, or a straightforward to design what I’m trying to do?

Use double sided tape. Choose the cut inside the line:

Or…

cut inside the line with tabs

see arrow also tabs are shown in yellow.

Thank you Martin,

I got the project done, and did in fact use double sided carpet tape, buy that is obviously a ‘work-around’ and I’m trying to learn how to do it right next time.

I believe that I didn’t explain the problem clearly enough. I know how to use tabs - when they are available. but the “cut Path” options menu does not exist when choosing a shape from the shape menu. Given that cut path options do not exist (can only clear out entire path, the tab menu does not exist.

It’s likely a simple solution, of which I am unaware. And that is the crux of the problem, and the reason for my inquiry.

Thus, my question is; is there a way to ‘force’ easel to provide cut path options and thus tabs when using shapes from the shapes menu?
Should I be importing shapes another way? How did you get that square in your example with the shape path menu?

I am attempting to share a screen shot which shows a circle, imported from the shape menu, and there is no cut path menu from which to choose cutting on the line and thus the option of tabs. It [the screenshot] shows up as a line of code on my end, so I do not know if you will see it.

ah yes, I see that the screenshot went. Please note the absence of a cut path option, and thus the absence of a tabs option

I see what you mean…I tried it and if the cut is deeper or equal to the material size, the tab portion of the window shows up. I used the circle tool in the Easel toolbox.

Martin, I thank you for your patience. AH-HA!! moment… I just played with the depth of cut settings and it must have been off by the slightest amount. I used the slider bar to take it to the max depth of cut and the cut path settings menu showed up (!!)

THANK YOU!!!

I assumed that it was a simple thing, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out.

Very much appreciated

one question though; what to you mean by the circle tool in the easel toolbox? My toolbox is only hardware (bits, etc…)

just the 4 given shapes on the upper left.

Joseph take a look a the project I copied from your share. Look at the notes on the 3rd and 4th tab (designs are slightly different due to approach and different because of the corners on 3rd are slightly thinner due to the process I did).
