With the work area set to 750mm for the 1000mm XC – the view of the material is out of view in the preview window when trying to view the top = it will go clean out of sight if you zoom in past a certain point — there is NO way to scroll the view in the preview panel - on OS X Safari and Firefox browsers
Can you share your project?
Would increasing the size of your stock (the Y setting in the upper left) to something bigger than 6 inches help?
Also, scroll wheel controls the preview zoom. Left click changes the Axis, and Middle Click pans.

you can adjust your material dimensions as well …

If your material size is correct, you can select all from the “EDIT” menu and rescale the object.
