THAT’S AWESOME!!!.. Thank You.

No problem - just make sure you adjust the settings for the thickness of your own aluminum plate. Mine wasn’t exactly .375 in.

Phil , is that slop of hair Metric or Imperial ?

Which (manufacturer, Model) end mill did you use on your machine for this cut?

Are you happy with your results/would you have done anything differently?

Ordered from Speedy Metals last night. Thank You.

I used a 1/4" spiral up-cut from the local Home Depot. I used the settings that Phil used on his spiral up-cut that are listed in the gantry plate thread - Gantry lift plates - #62

Ironically none were available at Home Depot, so I suppose that I’ll check amazon reviews.

However, I would like to ask if I should go for 1 flute or 2?
As a novice, I am not sure if “more is more” or “less is more” LOL

All Hail, Phil…

Just got my parts from ebay and the aluminum from speed metal, i will be doing the wasteboard and the z axis at the same time. Once i complete those 2 i will carve the aluminum to lift the x axis.

Phil,

It occurs to me that I should ask how the motor is handling the beefy Z-Axis…
Should I perhaps upgrade to the 262oz-in nema 23?

even with a router supporting a 1/2" shank collet?

Awesome!!! One less thing to worry about!

If that’s the case, I wish that instead of just upgrading, that I could replace all of the belt with ball screws… Have you built ball screw machines before?

Lead screws are nice. But at 1000mm you have to slow your rapids down to 6000 from 8000mm. Go to fast and they bind up.

Are these the changes I’ll need to make for my new linear Z? If so, where does all of it go?

Will I need to place them in Easel somewhere?

Phil,
just curious.
Why did you upgrade your Z axis?
Was there something wrong with the stock Z axis?

The reason I ask is mine “shudders” a bit while its cutting.
I don’t see any effect that cant be sanded out, but I still don’t like it.
Yes, I’ve gone through everything making sure all the V wheels are properly adjusted.
What all is involved if I decide to upgrade?
Is it simply plug & play?
Will there be software issues?
Where did you get yours?

thanks for your input

I will figure it out.

@PhilJohnson

What is your total height (from table to top of motor) with this upgrade? I’d be curious to know how much height your adding to the factory setup.
