Source for uhmw poly

I came across this at the Moorhead Mn Sams club yesterday and thought it worthy to share with he rest of the class. It has square cut edges and no “liquid groove” around the perimeter so it’s almost 100% usable. and the price is nice too!

That’s not Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE, UHMW) (also known as high-modulus polyethylene, (HMPE), or high-performance polyethylene (HPPE)), it’s HDPE, which is still a nice material to cut, but doesn’t have all the characteristics of UHMW.

I was not aware of such a difference, I am now better informed, thank you.

For many applications that uhmw would typically be used how would this be as a substitute?

If you need UHMW’s wear characteristics, or higher temperature tolerance, HDPE isn’t a substitute.

If you want an inexpensive plastic which is reasonably durable, HDPE should be fine.

Nice find, that’s quite a bit of material for the price. It looks to be about 3/8" thick, is that right?

Cool they have it here too.

Thanks for the find and share

1/2" thick!
