Stepper Motor on Gantry Issue

Good morning, all,

I believe I have narrowed down the issue to a faulty stepper motor, but wanted to see if anyone has anything that can get me up and running.

I just finished assembling my X-Carve and went to fire it up for the first carve.

I went to start calibrating it in Easel, and I could tell the stepper motor on the side in question was not moving properly (it is hooked to Y1 position). The gantry was twisting as it was moving.

I attempted to “Set up new Machine” and when it reached the homing configuration step, the motor would not move the gantry away far enough from the switch to finish the configuration.

I unhooked the right stepper motor with the left one connected and jogged it; nothing happened. I unhooked the left stepper motor with the right one connected and jogged; the right one worked. I adjusted the v wheels (even though the motor was not attempting to move at all when I jogged) to see if it was binding and nothing. I unplugged the wiring harness from both the motor and the controller and re-wired it and it still is not working. It doesn’t make any sound or move at all.

I’ve also updated the firmware and power-cycled both the computer and the controller.

Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate the time.

Did you unplug and swap motors in the side that works to see if it is a motor or controller problem?

I did. I switched the Y1 and Y2 around and it is the same issue with the same motor. I appreciate the reply and suggestion.

So it sounds like it is the motor. Can you check the continuity between the two pairs of windings? A multimeter set to ohms would allow you to check those windings I think.

I ended up conducting some more testing and it was the wiring harness. I called support and they sent me a new one.
