Tips on making a special carve

I want to make a plaque for a team in my department similar to the attached image but not sure how to get the darkness in the lettering. Any tips, techniques, ideas welcomed. I’m very new to this.

Not for sure but i would say that plaque was laser engraved. If you are planning on engraving it you could cover it with oramask then paint the engraving or you can engrave and paint the letters then sand the top off. You have to be careful with the later if your engraving is not deep enough you could sand out so of the letters

Masking it to paint is best option. another tip particularly with fine lettering like that. Run the project a second time to really clean it up, small letters like that are hard to sand and you might notice little pieces once painted. A second pass does really good job cleaning it up.

Hi Guys,
you need to clear coat before v carve, then a wipe on glaze or oil stain.

as fast as you can put it on, wipe it off
