What is the best way to paint and polish MDF?

I’ve had good results using Minwax Wood Hardener after the carve is complete, just brush on, wait for it to dry, lightly sand and then finish.

Thanks for reply. Could you suggest me what type of paint is better for this surface?

I typically use acrylics, I either roll, brush or airbrush it on, then follow with a water based polyurethane clear.
