Depends on what you want to do.
Are you talking about CNC controller software? CAM? CAD?
I use Fusion 360 and CamBam for my X-Carve. Some Sketchup as well.

QCad is a great CAD program. Very powerful, and easy to learn use. I’ve used it on some large projects with great results. But I’ve been unable to determine if its CAM add-on works with the XCarve or Shapeoko. Anyone used it for CAM?
