Hi - moved into a new place - beautiful big piece of wood on worksurface, but no idea what it is. Have sanded and put a little bit of linseed oil on to bring out the colour. Any help appreciated!
My bet is on redwood. Nice slab of it.

My guess would be black walnut, with the sap wood.
I would agree with Devrin. Sure looks like American Black Walnut.
Your local may help as I suspect it is likely native to your area.

I still say it looks like Black Walnut. However I have absolutely no knowledge of native wood in Europe. It could very well be something different.
